Let's bust some wedding myths! We've got top experts from the wedding industry, including natural photographer ‘Emma Collyer' and handcrafted Artisan ‘Eden B Studio', ready to unveil a series of common misconceptions!
Here we go…
Eden B Studio is a luxury bridal accessories brand specialising in unique hair accessories, veils and earrings based in the heart of Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
MYTH: 'You shouldn’t mix metal colours with your jewellery'
TRUTH: We’ve been told for years that you have to stick to one metal colour ie you’re a gold or a silver girl! Recently mixing metals has become increasingly popular. If your engagement ring is yellow gold but you love a pair of earrings in silver go for it! Keep in mind that accessories are not typically worn side by side so mixing metal tones can enhance your overall look without being the focus.
Lauren Stone is a Wedding Celebrant - fun personal ceremonies for couples who want something a little different | @lauren_stone_weddings
MYTHS: 'You can’t laugh during your ceremony’ | ‘Wedding ceremonies have to be serious’ | 'The party starts after the ceremony
TRUTH: These are all myths according to Humanist wedding celebrant Lauren Stone. She says “let’s re-think the traditional ceremony. Let’s include laughter and personal stories and joyous sing songs and surprises and symbolic gestures to create memorable and meaningful wedding ceremonies!”

Your Bridal Besties, Zoe and Eloise are Kent’s Bridal Hair and MUA Duo! Elevating natural beauty and delivering polished hair for the modern bride | @yourbridalbestiesuk
MYTH: ‘You book your hair and makeup artist after everything else’
TRUTH: No!!! Bridal hair and makeup artists get booked 1 year to 18 months in advance. If you find a glam team whose style you absolutely adore, book them as soon as you book your date to avoid disappointment! Your hair and makeup contributes hugely to your overall bridal vision: you will look back at your photographs for the rest of your life, and you don’t want to regret not having the best of the best for your hair and makeup.

Hayley at Cacti & Wildflower is a floral designer with a distinctive look, modern but cool and still pretty and feminine | @cactiandwildflower
MYTH: 'If I only use greenery and maybe some gypsophila it will keep the cost down ….'
TRUTH: Greenery from a wholesaler isn’t cheap any more, the trend of lots of greenery in weddings and large installations of lush green foliage has certainly driven foliage prices up over the years.
Yes, a tiny amount of green and maybe a sprig of two of gypsophila might be a cheaper option than big blooms but the reality is this will not look very appealing.
Another point to remember is that all flowers even gypsophila and even foliages still need to go through the conditioning and prepping process pre wedding styling which takes just as much time.
Table garlands for example take a long time to create and shape therefore costing a fair amount
The frosty blue foliages you see so often like eucalyptus or the shiny modern exotic foliages - all imported hence the price is certainly not cheap.
The best thing to do is to discuss your budget with your florist and be open to suggestions on suitable florals and foliages that follow your theme.

Emma Collyer is a documentary wedding photographer based in Kent that loves fly-on-the-wall photography, taking a back seat and capturing “being in the moment” and letting the day flow. www.emmacollyer.com | @emmacollyerphotography
MYTH: 'You should only book a photographer if they’ve shot at that venue before'
TRUTH: There are many venues that photographers shoot for the first time. If a photographer hasn’t been to a venue before a lot of research goes into it before hand. For venues I’ve not been to before I turn up earlier on the wedding day to get myself familiar, or I may visit the venue before the big day. I also do lots of research to make sure I am confident where everything is and come with a plan of where I will take couples portraits or suggest where group photos are to take place. I can reassure you that shooting in a venue that I’ve been to before or not been to before has no difference in the quality of service, images and experience of booking me :)
Abstract Events specialise- in wedding and event styling for design conscious brands and couples. Telling your story through a design-led approach and seamlessly organising all the visual details, giving you back the time to enjoy the process.
MYTH: 'Hiring a wedding stylist is an unnecessary expense'
TRUTH: A wedding stylist can actually help save you money in the long run by making informed decisions and avoiding costly mistakes. A wedding stylist can guide you on how to make the most of your budget and how to smartly create impact, offering creative suggestions, recommending suppliers who best fit your budget and saving you hours of research!
